Five township residents and one Toms River man were arrested Friday in a drug bust, township police said.

More than 600 people died of heroin-related overdoses in New Jersey in 2014 – doubling the amount of deaths from the drug since 2011, according to the state Medical Examiner’s Office.

Thirty-two people were arrested, including a police officer and public works employee, in the takedown of two independent drug trafficking organizations operating out of Monmouth and Ocean counties, the State Police announced Wednesday.
