Monmouth and Ocean County hospitals to pay for Narcan

To assist police departments as they combat the heroin epidemic, three health care systems that run nine hospitals in Monmouth and Ocean counties have agreed to pay for a drug that reverses heroin overdoses.

The measure comes as another piece of a plan to counter heroin deaths came into view — an effort to bring specialists into emergency rooms to talk revived overdose victims into getting treatment.
