Obama to seek $1B for treatment of heroin addiction

President Barack Obama’s proposed federal budget for the 12 months beginning Oct. 1 will include $1.1 billion over two years for treatment and prevention of addiction to heroin and prescription opioids.

The administration also is stepping up enforcement to reduce supplies of cheap heroin coming into the U.S., including along the East Coast. The government also is working with Mexico to cut down on the cultivation of poppies there.
